The road racing and recreational motorcycle sports community is celebrating the completion of track resurfacing works at one of Victoria’s premier motorcycle racing circuits, Broadford Road Race Circuit, courtesy of Asphaltech.
Asphaltech secured the exciting contract to resurface the 2,160-metre bitumen race track with Motorcycling Victoria following a competitive bid, and completed the job in just three days.
Asphaltech went to work laying 1800 tonnes of specialty Asphaltech asphalt, AC10mm Racetrack Mix. The innovative product was developed specifically for the contract, and utilised advanced PMB with low void count, superior stiffness and high fatigue life to ensure the race track would withstand the popular race track’s intensive usage.
The circuit was paved in echelon to achieve a superb, hot join finish using advanced laser level sensors, and speciality methodology in line with racetrack mix requirements.
One of Motorcycling Victoria’s key assets, Broadford Road Race Circuit had been showing wear and tear prior to its resurfacing, after years of hosting various major racing and recreational road bike, sidecar, super-moto and historics racing spectator events for the community.
Asphaltech had to overcome challenging groundwater and moisture conditions on the project, working with the client to resolve any job site issues, and ultimately delivering deliver a high-end circuit surface.
Thanks to the excellent work of Asphaltech engineers, the now restored Broadford will continue to operate as one of the best road circuit facilities in Victoria for years to come.
