A multi-purpose, unique red asphalt boasting both beauty and strength

GravelMix offers the strength and durability of conventional black asphalt, with the aesthetic appeal of red laterite stone. Better yet, while regular bitumen fades over time, the red look of GravelMix only improves with age, its deep, earthy colour lasting and even strengthening over the lifetime of the pavement.

The mechanical interlock of the laterite stones grants GravelMix exceptional strength – double that of conventional asphalt mixes. This asphalt mix has been designed and tested in a National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA)-accredited laboratory and is VicRoads registered.

GravelMix can be used anywhere that conventional black asphalt is used, but is particularly popular in open-graded mix form and utilised in areas needing aesthetic enhancement or safety delineation. It can also be used in Stone Mastic Asphalt form, thanks to Asphaltech’s alternative product, Gravelmix SMA.

Beautification

GravelMix’s natural looking, earthy red colour and smooth surface is ideal for elevating the aesthetics of commercial or residential developments, and has been utilised to beautify private driveways, new subdivisions, tram stops and platforms and public walking paths for over 25 years.

Safety / Road Way Delineation

Because GravelMix’s source aggregate, lateritic stone, is naturally red, there is absolutely no risk of GravelMix’s red finish fading or disappearing with wear and tear, unlike other coloured surface treatments. This makes GravelMix particularly suitable for improving road safety by delineating between the regular road surface and any medians, hazards or obstructions in the road, including speed humps.

Bus Lanes

Due to its high visibility and low maintenance, GravelMix is a popular choice for peak hour-dedicated bus lanes. Not to mention, where minor maintenance is required, GravelMix is significantly cheaper and easier to obtain than alternative coloured surface treatments.
